The term “demography” comes from the Greek words “demos” (people) and “graphein” (to write). Demography describes and analyses population trends and structures and how these change. It considers the causes and consequences of population trends and views them in the context of political and other variables.

In the same way that demography is concerned with the composition of a society in terms of particular features, corporate demography focuses on the structural composition of a workforce. It examines the distribution of features such as gender, age and qualifications within a company.
